Airtel’s Learn From Home Bundles, The Perfect Solution for Online Classes

The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted almost all aspects of our life but one of the most affected sectors was that of education. When schools were closed in March of 2020, little did we know that here in Uganda it would be a full 2 years without reasonable school time. Some schools managed to put up some form of learning but there was a lot to learn.

When we entered 2021, it was more than evident that it was still a long way before everything would return to normal. This is when schools that were reluctant to go online decided that it was now inevitable. In most schools, online classes were full at the beginning but the numbers kept on declining as the cost of data started to go deep into parents pockets. Because parents were complaining, we at senior1.org even had to do a survey to find out the actual cost of a zoom session. The findings can be found in this article we wrote here.

When senior1.org organised the first every virtual 1 month orientation program for senior one learners, parents who attended the launch were wary of the costs involved in engaging learners for a whole month. This was evidence as to why of the over two hundred learners who were registered, we managed to get only 25 pioneers learners for this program.

Airtel brings good news!

Airtel Uganda, one of the leading ISPs recently launched a special package for education purposes called the Learn from Home Bundles. This special bundle is tweaked in such a way that it gives learners access to only Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and a few selected educational websites. This bundle helps you avoid data consuming apps and websites by blocking access to all the rest from the ISP’s side.

How much does the Learn from Home Bundle cost?

Airtel’s Learn from Home Bundle costs only 1,500 UGX per GB. This is a far better deal that the 300 MBs one usually gets at a cost of 2,000 UGX. This means that with 1,500 UGX, a learner can have more than 10 hours of lesson time on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. This is many hours more that what most schools are offering per day.

This is more than good news for the parents of senior1.org. Unless otherwise, learners now have no excuse for missing our virtual lessons. They only need a few extra MBs to download learners books and their subjects syllabuses. Parents now don’t have to worry about data being depleted even before learners join our virtual classes.
